Crazy Gardener
Tonight I made a quick stop at Holland's Landscape Center just down the street on my way home from work. I was tired of the way my garden was looking... mystery plants growing over the plants I intentionally put there. So, I bought a couple coneflowers and gayfeathers. I've been waiting all season for my purple gayfeather to bloom... but the rabbits like to snack on that plant, so it has been struggling.
I also have a record-breaking sized daylily... I've never seen one this huge before. And it was taking over. So, when Josh got home I had some tasks for him. I had him dig out the daylily, the wild geranium, and the pink flowered mystery plant. Mystery plant met an untimely death. The daylily was divided into three, and relocated. And the wild geranium was divided and relocated.
Last but not least, I now had prime space open for my beautiful new prairie flowers. I put them in and now I am finally very happy with this section of the garden. It now looks like I have been meaning for it to look.
So when I finally finished my gardening adventures for the night (at 9:30) I quick took a picture. Just in case the rabbits ate my garden overnight, at least I had proof of my hard work.

Fourth of July at the Cabin
Josh and I spent our fourth of July at the cabin. Asher had his first boat ride, and he now seems to really like boat rides. Josh did some excellent fly fishing and we all had fun on the boat. My favorite parts include going to Granny's (yum!) and going to Zorbaz on Ottertail! It was a gorgeous weekend!

Brandy's Wedding
Rhubarb Crisp = Yum!
Last year I transplanted a rhubarb plant to my garden from my mom's yard. And boy, does that thing grow! This year, the plant was getting so big that it was covering up a couple of my hostas, so I decided it needed a trim.
Combine rhubarb, sugar, 1/4 cup of the flour, and cinnamon. Put in greased 9x9" baking dish. (I used an 8x8 dish).
Combine remaining flour, brown sugar, oatmeal & melted butter. (It calls for quick oats, but I used regular ones and it still worked).
Sprinkle oatmeal mixture over rhubarb. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
Serve and enjoy! Then wait for the rhubarb to grow back and make some more!
So I went out and cut off everything that was either dead looking (and put in the compost pile) or ripe looking (that came into the kitchen with me). Then I found a recipe on kraftfoods.com for Rhubarb Crisp. It was so surprisingly good, that I'm going to share the recipe with you a la Pioneer Woman style.
Ingredients needed:
4 cups rhubarb, cut into pieces (I used an approximation); 1 cup sugar; 1 1/4 cups flour, divided; 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon; 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar; 1/2 cup quick-cooking oatmeal; 1 stick butter, melted and cooled.
Preparation:
Combine rhubarb, sugar, 1/4 cup of the flour, and cinnamon. Put in greased 9x9" baking dish. (I used an 8x8 dish).
Combine remaining flour, brown sugar, oatmeal & melted butter. (It calls for quick oats, but I used regular ones and it still worked).
Sprinkle oatmeal mixture over rhubarb. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
Serve and enjoy! Then wait for the rhubarb to grow back and make some more!
